Made for any surface, the Tradishions Trivet can handle your hottest dishes or keep you company at the dinner table by acting as a fidget tool to create unique forms. When not in use, it can be left standing as a decorative centerpiece. These design decisions were made with our insights in mind as a trivet for a centerpiece may seem out of place, but it can also inspire action, by encouraging you to manipulate its form or reminding you it's time to start cooking. It's there to do whatever you need it to, tying into the research we received focused on unconventional convenience, as well as two of the three insights that can all be found in the images below. There, you can also find that team's full presentation.
Where did we go from this team's presentation to get to the Tradishions Trivet? Well, this slideshow to the right will clue you in on our next steps all the way to us presenting two original concepts, where one was picked by a group of judges to further explore.
For a condensed viewing, look over slides 4-7, 15-21.
We were selected to follow through with concept B, the conversation mat. Below, you can see one of the first prototypes we made, followed by the finished product.
Here are some contextual images of our trivet in use:
We were tasked to make and sell ten of these at an event we held called the Winter Market. To consider packaging, we designed a sleeve that wraps around the trivet once it is easily folded.
Here is our setup at the Winter Market, where we sold out our trivets for $30. We also made and sold coasters to address the extra materials we had left.
