For a full viewing of our research presentation, refer to the slides on the right. Otherwise, I'll be breaking down the key points below, covering the location we visited to our insights that led to the creation of another team's product.
Kafe Kerouac promotes itself as a coffee house and bar, but we learned quickly how adaptable this place can be to accommodate different social scenes. My group and I collectively visited Kafe Kerouac 7 times, totaling 15 hours for observation. Below are some images we took while there and a timeline distinguishing our plan.

With our observations recorded, we sought out to make sense of the data. We compiled a list of the 4 A's (actors, artifacts, actions, and atmosphere) and tracked them over time, noticing a shift throughout the day that went from studious to social. Our three insights were inspired by unpacking this shift.

Below, each slide represents how we formed our insights. The first is an artifact map that tracks objects in space over time; the second deals with the specific layout of furniture and how it changes to fit the needs of a space, and the last touches on how sound and people's interactions can create an atmospheric shift.

Once we found our actionable insights, we traded them off with another group for them to design a product around. Out came Squared Away, by Harrison Dodd and Sharon Longdong:

I can try to put into words how this ties back to our insights, but I think it's better coming from their product description: "This home good’s versatile design can adapt to multiple spaces in your home. Whether you're looking to declutter your living room, optimize your workspace, or for a space-saving bedside table, Squared Away is the solution to your storage and decor needs!"
