Project Context 
Brief
OSU has asked the 3rd year students to design bags/multi-purpose soft goods for OSU departments. Once a department has been selected, students will independently brainstorm on possible needs for this department. Students will look for tangible needs such as storage, tools, use, size, and materials that can be provided to this department. Delving into the department, students will identify, department messaging, attributes, unique traits from other OSU departments, colors, logos etc. This information will provide elements that can be translated into a “Visual Brand Language” that will help in creating the bags or other soft goods.
Research Insights
One of the few OSU buildings with a courtyard, its aerial view inspired the bag’s flap shape and negative-space handle. In the absence of a department logo, I designed one and incorporated it into the compass clasp. Blending old and new functionalities, the bag includes storage for both a map and a laptop. Geographic imagery connects to the sub-departments, with details like a kayak zipper pull and a subtle blimp fin integrated in the logo.
